Tips to power up your motivation

Are you feeling a bit stuck or finding it hard to be motivated? Here are some ideas on powering up your motivation:

  • Know your why. What is your mission and why do you want to do it? Dig really deep with your response and keep asking why. Understand the underlying reasons and purpose underpinning your mission. If your reasons are strong enough, you’ll be more driven and determined to persevere with your mission even through tough situations. Link your mission to people around you and how it will benefit them.

  • Ask yourself how strongly you want to achieve it. If you don’t want something badly enough or it’s not that important to you, it’s quite natural for your motivation to dissipate. If that’s the case, it may be worth re-directing your time and energy towards something else that you care deeply about.

  • Write down your goals. Writing them on paper makes them clearer and more concrete. When you write down your goals, something magical happens (although there is actually science behind this) where you are more likely to achieve them – how cool is that? Place your goals somewhere you can see or refer to them often to help you stay focussed and motivated.

  • Find an accountability partner. It’s great when you involve a friend in your goals and share accountability, like a gym buddy. You’re more likely to show up to the gym when you know your friend is counting on you, right? Even if your friends don’t have the same goals as you, you can still share your goals with them and ask them to help keep you accountable with your progress. Verbalising your goals and using social accountability can help to keep your motivation going.

Even when you feel like your motivation is wavering, keep going! I believe in you; you’ve got this!
